2018 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Rankings – Week 1

NEW ORLEANS –It’s certainly early in the season, but for the first time since 2015, we have a new leader on the men’s side of the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Team Rankings.

While Iowa Central CC’s women are holding down the fort atop the women’s rankings to open the season, the men sit in second after coming in ranked first every week across the last two seasons, announced the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.

There’s no surprise that Iowa Central CC is the leader heading into the first week of rankings. The squad owns six top marks on the NJCAA Descending Order List. Agnes Mansaray (600 and 800) and Adva Cohen (mile, 3000 and 5000) own multiple marks, while Michelle Tomlin (weight throw) is also the best in her event. Adva Cohen hails from Jerusalem, ISRAEL and is the top ranked Junior College middle distance runner in the US.

Neta Saar, Florida Tech University                 Adi Davidov, Florida Tech University

MELBOURNE, Fla. – In the final dual meet of the season for the Panthers, they welcomed Sunshine State Conference rivals, Saint Leo and Lynn, to the Panther Aquatic Center. Both the men, 120-139 to Saint Leo, and women, 136-116 to Saint Leo and 130-126 to Lynn, fell on tough times as they dropped the meets in heartbreaking fashion.

However, the day started off on a high note as the team looked to honor its nine senior members as they took their lanes for the final time at home. Edward Ilako, Paulina Bjorkbacka, Samantha Conger, Yagoh Kubagawa, Trista Phelps, Neta Saar (Haifa, ISRAEL), Thomas Steenberg, Mary Ida Spradlin and Evelyn Stein were recognized for both their athletic and academic achievements they have earned over their time at Florida Tech.  The third and fourth events of the day saw Birgitt O'Connor finish second; while Emanuele Rossi and Kubagawa, second and third, placed in the top three for the men. The 200-yard freestyle saw FIT snag its first win of the night as Saar came out at a blistering pace grabbing the lead by the first split and never conceding it. Steenberg swim, on the men's side, was good enough for a third-place finish.

Florida Tech managed to secure a couple more wins when Juskevich and Ollivierre both took first place in their respective 100-yard breaststroke events. Continuing with the theme of strong finishes Barger earned third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.76. Adi Davidov (Herzeliya, ISRAEL) and Obregon managed to earn second and third in the men's 200 butterfly.
